[wellylug] The year

I think we probably need to break it down some more than that to specifics.
I know this may bore some very knowledgeable people but for the lesser
beings such as I it would benefit us by, for example, the following:
Meeting Format:
1. A presentation of a topic
2. Q&A session
3. A workshop demonstrating the topic on peoples PC's.
For the topics I suggest that KDE or Gnome are broad topics and perhaps a
breakdown into:
1. Customising the interfaces, icons, and services
2. The Tools available for each - what they are and do, and what each
package lacks
3. Common Office applications available (word processor equivalents, etc)
and how to use them - this could span a couple of meetings as there are a
lot of common applications
4. Exploring the configuration files for KDE/Gnome and where to find them.
5. Administering new users - installing common applications/services for
every user (i.e. Open Office, printers) to reduce disk usage and double-ups.
and so on.
I am keen to learn Linux, but admit I am confused easily by the different
variations and possibilities when all I want is a useable PC or network of
PC's with printers, a common internet connection, etc. So don't expect me to
stand up just yet - I am supplying ideas from my perspective only.
The important thing is to have those more knowledgeable willing to
-patiently- guide those who are not sure of what we are doing, through some
exercises to demonstrate the points from the presentation. That helps us all
because then questions can be raised and covered more effectively.
If it is off the subject then perhaps keep a note of the topic raised for
future meetings to explore.
My 5c worth.

I agree
Maybe someone could present KDE 3 and Gnome 2 next month?
