Thanks for your replies.
As I figured out, RH 7.1 is not the best distribution to play for video 
acquisition (V4L rather than V4L2, SDL 1.1, gcc 2.96)..... Allmost all recent 
CVS require more recent libraries than that, and it seems to be so with MDK8.1
I am about to make the move to it !
