May I point out that there are probably huge differences in life
expectancy and reliability in terms of cutting CDs to required
standards. I would expect anything for <$200 to be junk. Wasn't that
BTC so junkie that it wouldn't even run? In theory, all IDE CD-RW
should work with Linux. You don't want the ones which don't work with
Linux not only for that reason!!

CD writers write a certain number of CDs, and that's it. The number for
a good one is probably around 1000, for a bad one half that if that.
Saying a writer is reliable after writing 50 CDs might say that it
hasn't produced any duds, it doesn't say it'll do more than another
100, and it doesn't say that it will keep your backup on your CD for as
long as you hope. The cheap ones also have a lower media-compatibility
I'd expect.

Check http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/ before you buy, but that still
doesn't say anything about long-term issues. People seem to buy writers
solely by looking at the number before the first x - ts ts ts...
