For the amount of fluffing about involved to add a one-off source to urpmi,
you could just upgrade the RPMs from the command line. Thus, as root (type su
and enter the root password):
rpm -Uvh /path/to/myupdatedpackage.rpm
For each one. -U means update, -v means verbose (ie. it tells you what is
going on), and -h gives you a pretty little progress bar! :-)
If you still want to add local files as a source, do this:
urpmi.addmedia sourcename file:///absolute/path/to/rpms
For instance, I have an assorted collection of various downloaded RPMs in a
downloads directory, which I added like this (as root):
urpmi.addmedia downloads file:///home/johnno/downloads
Also, bear in mind there is a nifty cache of non-standard (read slightly
dodgy, eg. DVD decryption, patented algorithms, etc) Mandrake specific RPMs
at the Penguin Liberation Front,
http://plf.zarb.org/
Which includes modified Mandrake builds of xine, mplayer, mp3, libdvdcss,
alternative KDE skins and artwork, etc. There's even a button on the site
that generates the command for adding a PLF mirror to your urpmi, eg:
urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.easynet.fr/plf/9.0 with hdlist.cz
If you want to remove a source afterwards (perhaps it was only temporary), go
urpmi.removemedia sourcename
Hope that helps,
Jon
