How about saving up some notes on this for the first meeting next year - or
else post the various possibilities on the Discussion Board so any on us can
look at precisely what you are suggesting and implement cleanly?

I'm not familiar with urpmi (having never ventured far beyond
RedHat) but rpm -Uvh most certainly does do dependency checking.
However it would only tell you if dependency checks failed and
you'd need to install the missing packages first.
Were you saying that urpmi would locate and install missing
dependent packages automatically (ala RedHat's up2date)?
