They theoretically can exist, but they're a lot harder to find.  AFAIK
the only stuff in the wild you'll find is worms that attack buggy
software (like the ramen worm).  Ordinary users don't have write access
to system executables which helps - and files need to be made executable
before they can execute.

Therefore, there isn't any Linux antivirus software (for detecting Linux
viruses).  Therefore you can't spend money on it.  You may want a
firewall, and internet-facing systems are always at risk, but it's a lot
easier to lock down a Linux box than one running, say, Windows NT.
