For those of you Intrested - I got this reply re 
Linux for the PS2 in NZ, if 
you want to know more about the kit jump on slashdot 
or linux today or lwn or 
linuxgames and check the last few days stories - 
theres a few there. If youre 
intrested its worth checking out the details in the 
articles - there are some 
limitations to be aware of - eg old xfree86, no dvd 
viewing under linux etc.


Still it looks kinda cool tho - just the excuse to 
get a ps2 - and what with 
Loki going under and you want to play games ...

I'll be intrested to see the pricing for the Kit in 
NZ.

We here are also interested in the Linux kit for 
PlayStation 2.
Sony has recently announced that the Linux Kit will 
be released in a PAL (NZ
& European) format in May.

The Kit will include the following,


Internal hard disk drive for PlayStation 2 (HDD) 
with 40 GB capacity
Network Adaptor (Ethernet) with 100 Base T Ethernet 
interface Linux Kernel
version 2.2.1 (with USB device support)
"Linux (for PlayStation 2)" Version 1.0 software 
distribution on two DVDs
gcc 2.95.2 and glibc 2.2.2 with VU assemblers
XFree86 3.3.6 with PlayStation 2 GS support
Computer monitor adaptor (for PlayStation 2) (with 
audio connectors)
USB Keyboard and mouse (for PlayStation 2).

No other details have been made available.

To answer your other question, An American 
PlayStation 2 will not play games
purchased in New Zealand due to the colour formats 
that they are encoded
with.
