I have not yet tried evolution myself, in general I'm not interested in
Ximian stuff because last time I tried to install anything it was a
major pain and I had to give up. I use SuSE, and Ximian almost seems
proud to not bother making things work on SuSE (there's some story
about Ximian going to SuSE saying "we'll make sure it works if you
invest sufficiently in our company", too). All that aside, I
didn't/don't fancy software which was *that* distribution-dependent.
Much of this might have changed now. I have heard several people rave
about evolution. I'd say give it a go, delete it if you can't get it
going within 5 minutes.
When I pointed out that kmail doesn't read the content-length: header,
the developers pointed me to some rant by DJB, said they were doing the
right thing, and that pine and evolution don't do this either.
Personally I prefer software which can handle the data I have collected
over the past 10 years over software which is correct but doesn't get
the job done. If you find a GUI client which does all this please let
me know, until then I'll do all mailing lists with mutt (because kmail
can't more than about 5).
