Yep probably, my description was a bit lousy. Let's try again:

If you know the vroboard strip stuff, imagine there wasn't a connection
between adjacent holes at all. Or, imagine a ring of copper around each
hole, and none of the rings touch. A bit like

o o o o o o o o o o
o o o o o o o o o o
o o o o o o o o o o
o o o o o o o o o o
o o o o o o o o o o
o o o o o o o o o o
o o o o o o o o o o

rather than the veroboard's

o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o
o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o
o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o
o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o
o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o
o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o

I think both of them may be called veroboard, different variety.

It is possible that the ring-version was never popular in NZ, but I
always found them vastly superior. In fact I used the stripey ones only
once. You spend more time working on your layout, cutting the stripes,
getting confused, and fixing the errors than the trouble is worth. With
the circles you place your chips in what you think is sensible and
cable everything up. If it doesn't work, you add the ones you forgot.
The high-frequency properties (up to a few MHz) must be about equal, I
always got my microprocessor circuits to work. Absolutely great for
prototyping! The additional 25% or so you spend on the board pales
compared to the time you spend on it (esp once you leave high school).

Of course the original question was for making up an existing circuit
so the prototyping isn't an argument (until you start tinkering).
