Netbios is the protocol microsoft use for computers to identify and
communicate with each other. Netbios-ssn is probably a more secure
implementation of netbios, providing encrypted authentication.
You can block them if you don't want to communicate with windows machines
using netbios, however if you are going to use samba you will need to leave
them open. I would suggest always blocking them on your firewall machine.

You can do that with your favourite firewall configuration app.
