Sounds like a good topic to me, I can easily see that little excercise
taking up all evening (I wish!), so far I've been contemplating it for
about 6 months!

I have done two things towards my aim of setting up such a mail server
(getting started is half the job right? ;-), I have decided to use Postfix
as the mail program (recommended by someone in this group) and subscribed
to the Postfix mailing list (which has people endlessly discussing the
problems they're having with Postfix). I have also just set up a box that
I can dialup (I have two phone lines :-) and test mail send/receive so I
don't have to risk loosing my mail (or more to the point, my partners) mail
while testing.

Now all I have to do is build another box, install Linux and Postfix, and
set it up! (should be finished by Christmas)
