Another trick is to put w---dows onto a physically separate disk, into
IDE 1,0 (/dev/hdc).

Prior to installing, set BIOS to boot off the second disk.

Then, when w--dows writes the mbr, it'll go to /dev/hdc, which won't
matter.

(Don't forget then to change BIOS back to booting /dev/hda).

Thereafter, stick the disk-swap line into the GRUB or LILO config entry
for w--dows.

An added benefit is that when one is ready to wipe out w--dows, one can
simply reformat or sell the disk without having to change any setup.
