I saw the article  - looks an intresting approach - but Ive not had much experience with cvs.

I do a similar thing with rsync and rcs for server backup, web trees, /etc/namedb and the like. I keep the directory structure the same on the rsynced backup server so can navigate as on the origional file system. Generally if the server is borked so bad you need the backups youre gonna do a reinstall anyway (good opertunity to upgrade the os as well) so the duplicate rsynced config files are all you need, plus the zone files, web tree, etc. With services like squid the data is transitory so you dont care about it, mail servers are a bit more tricky - idealy you should back up the /var/mail files but getting the service back up is more important. ... Anyway  - just trying to justify my backup regime ;)
