I've got one; it mostly goes fine. It certainly boots off my Linux box
OK.

Unfortunately, when an app asks for a colour by name (instead of RGB
numeric value), all it gets is a shade of red. This seems to happen when
the app is running on an i386 box (my linux boxes, a NetBSD box at VUW)
or an Alpha/Tru64 box (VUW again) (the VUW connections are tunneled via
ssh from my Linux box). However when I run an app on a Sun at VUW, it
runs fine.

Probably related (because it's the same machines that have the problem)
if I select some text in emacs with the mouse, emacs crashes when I
remove my finger from the button.

The machines involved lead me to think it's an endianness problem -
though the admin at VUW says he's used NCDs off alphas plenty in the
past with no problems.

There are references to both issues on the web (including various list
archives), but I haven't been able to find a solution. Unfortunately,
these things are sufficiently old that most people don't seem to be
bothered trying any more :-(

Oh - it's possible to get stuff right by using xnest - an X server which
displays on X. It must do the colour translations and send stuff on as
numeric values. I think VNC worked similarly. They're both pretty slow
though, and my limited testing left me working in a large window, which
is a bit ugly.

Other than all that, it works great :-) I use x2x to make it appear like
a 2nd 'head' of my linux box - and restrict myself to running xterms or
emacs off the Sun at VUW.

At least, I'll do some of that again when I've recovered my extra hub
from Dad's place - I need it for the 10base2 port.

Richard
