I think I found something that may do the trick:

I haven't tested it out yet.  In my case it's a wee bit complicated by
the fact that the configuration for the virtual servers is handled by
something called ensim, a proprietary application that sits on top over
redhat that provides a GUI interface to common server config functions. 
Not exactly the type of environment one can go into and mess with the
config files--they'll get overwritten!  Hopefully I can get away with a
dot htaccess file.
