how much do you get paid?
what kind living standard do you have?

living on social wellfare gets you a better standard of living today than
a normal working job 40 years ago.
(well in western europe anyways, can't compare other social wellfare systems)

in fact (my) standard of living drops, the more i'd have to work.

most of the things that are important for a high standard of living
can not be bought with money.

clean water and air, plenty variety of food, clothing. 
(money doesn't help much you if no good food is available,
you you don't need much money to enjoy eating something different everyday, 
there is plenty of selection still if you skip the expensive items.
free time to relax, enjoy a hobby, go for a walk, sport whatever
are very important to a high standard of living.

if you work 70 hours you won't do any better in the water, air, food clothing
department, yes, you may afford the more expensive stuff, but more expensive
is not better, on the contrary.
you will also do worse in the free time, hobby, sports department,
because with 70 hours on the job you'll have none of that.

and health?
so more money allows you to pay for better healthcare,
but if you live healthy to start with you don't need healthcare.
you will need it however if you work 70 hours, because all that
work will make you sick.

what kind of a standard of living is that?
