At risk of being a naysayer - laptop installs *can* be more tricky than
plain ol desktops.

You *may* have to fiddle a bit, especially with the modem.
The rest of the machine spec looks good.

Are you planning on a dedicated linux machine or does it have to co-exist
with the MS Windows?

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised once Mandrake is installed.
