Red Hat and Mandrake are superb distros, but can can be a bit overwhelming,
especially to a newcomer who is used to the Microsoft Windows environment.

may I suggest that you have a look at yet another distro - Lycoris
(www.Lycoris.org)

It is incredibly easy to set up and use, probably a bit too close to Win Xp
in appearance
for some of the die hard linux users.

Networks with Windows machines well

It includes dialup settings for NZ ISPs Xtra, Paradise, Actrix and Ihug.

Does not have all the additional software that RH, Mandrake etc include
but Lycoris plus Open Office would do most things for most users, I imagine.
The current stable release is 46, the latest beta is 119.

Can send you a copy of 46 if you are interested

I had a quick look at the mandrake page you mentioned to someone else
on the list, would that do everything
I need and I how can I tell if I could use it without getting help
all the time? Can it have a network with a Win box? Would I need
help getting ADSL set up and which machine would connect to the
net? Would we need a server/firewall machine?

Also I WOULD need help installing it, this I am certain as my
Debian does not have sectors?? as my home dir kept getting full it is
just all in one 'lump' on my 6GB drive. Also where can I buy Mandrake?

Could I pay someone knowledgable to get it installed and how would
i keep all my current files, as I have heaps of stuff I need, mainly
text files and jpgs?

Also I just turned my mutt mail 'off' and X has stayed open ever since,
but I have NO idea about this, or why and how everything could
suddenly change !?

Sorry for all the Q's, hope someone knows the answers!

Thank you

Persian
