Sorry for the second post - if you want a quick fix, use the md5 script
in the scriptutils package. There are rpms at
http://volker.dnsalias.net/soft/rpm/suse8.2/ or a tar file at
http://volker.dnsalias.net/soft/pck/
There'll be another update very soon.

Edit the filename part (which is useless here) in the md5 sum to a
single dash, and save it in a file somehere. Then run
md5 -y /dev/cdrom md5file
