It really doesn't make a scrap of difference between Intel or AMD, they both 
work 100% perfectly well. The AMD vs Intel buying decision basically comes 
down to price.

Much more important would be which motherboard and graphics card chipsets he 
was using, which determines whether the 3D graphics, on-board USB, firewire, 
audio, RAID, and various other foofoo valves will work. This support varies 
widely from chipset to chipset, and IME makes the CPU choice pretty much an 
after thought.
