Hi Jethro,

I am running the 1.4 release of Gentoo with the new 2.6.0 kernel. I can
honestly say that it is by far the best distro I have ever used.

Portage makes your life easy, and with it's tools like etc-update etc. it
makes administration and upgrade of your system a breeze.

I would recommend starting with a GRP install (_especially_ if you don't
have high speed internet) then upgrade and install additional packages as
you need them.

You will probably find that Gentoo takes a little more effort to begin
with, but the end result is a very fast stable system, fully optimised for
your hardware, with _only_ the software you want installed!

HTH,
James
