Why not give FreeBSD a try;
Find the package you want in /usr/ports,
type make install
it downloads and compiles all deps (can otherwise download a binary)
make clean
and thats it,
administration is not quite as easy as linux though as it does a few 
things differently

if this doesn't appeal , .. slackware
