Pleased to hear it.

Actually, other folks who haven't played with hdparm might be interested too.

My HD, for example, was producing just over 3 Mb/s throughput on write. 
Tweaking with hdparm has produced a 10-fold improvement. I'd never really 
bothered before, and was shocked at the increase possible.

It seems that basically Linux' IDE drivers assume a lowest common denominator 
in performance, unless you (with hdparm and kernel parameters) tell it how to 
take advantage of DMA etc.
