Does this impact SCSI on PCI cards?

Pleased to hear it.

Actually, other folks who haven't played with hdparm might be interested
too.

My HD, for example, was producing just over 3 Mb/s throughput on write. 
Tweaking with hdparm has produced a 10-fold improvement. I'd never really 
bothered before, and was shocked at the increase possible.

It seems that basically Linux' IDE drivers assume a lowest common
denominator 
in performance, unless you (with hdparm and kernel parameters) tell it how
to 
take advantage of DMA etc.
