I did this (with great trepidation, having heard vi is nasty!), but
still got the welcome to http://etc.
Logged on anyway and went into terminal window again and repeated step
one and the correct value came up.
Went on and configued gnome ppp dial up and connected to internet, but
it disconnects before I have such time as to even write a URL.
Rebooted, and would you believe - still the welcome to http://, and the
same message about gnome. This defeats me. I noticed as the boot up
dialogue rushed by it said something about host as http:// etc.
