The install files are all supposed to be there, and I had a look last
night and found things called /etc/cups, /etc/foomatic, /etc/gimp, and
so on.

I also went to the Software Manager and deleted the reference to
"Installation CD(ftp1) in the "Configure Sources" window; wondering if
the Drake might then recognise and install them. I then attempted to
use Drake to configure printing. According to the log the packages were
installed [foomatic, printer utils, printer test pages, nmap, scli,
gimpprint,, cups, nettols, xpp].

I then added my printer which was autodetected.

A message came up asking me to wait while "making printer port available
for cups". The display suddenly reverted back to Mdk control centre.
Then when attempted to print received message "Error printer. Check
that the cups server is correctly installed and running".

So maybe what I did, didn't actually install anything?

Yes - my original install attempt for Mandrake 9 was from CDs a Linux
person burnt for me. All sorts of problems with it not reading properly.

Might not be worth you sending the CDs?

Rose
