Enjoying this debate ... the points about inflamation and sore points =
flames is a problem I think for Linux, in that bad words said about it do
tend to provoke irrational responses. Linux has a loyal following but too
much zeal can turn off non-converts.
I work for a medium size business we use linux and have done for 2 years -
wildly sucessfully compared to previous NT 4 Server experience. I think it
may be that to set up a Linux server with squid, sendmail, a pop server
samba etc does take a little nouse and some understanding of the config
files. A little understanding helps enormously in securing a server too.
Probably the standard and ability of Linux admins in underlying internet
technologies is superior to the Windows server admins in business. I suspect
businesses without internal support ie a knowlegeable employee would steer
clear of Linux due to the requirement to understand a few config files.
However, it is precisely this understanding which makes Linux more secure.
