Will it also cover proxying?

iptables (and therefore a 2.4.x kernel) anything else needed?

Not needed?  Save me dumping a full default distro to a pc with all the associated baggage and holes.

At the April meetng we will have the following presentation, by Alex Weiss:

Topic: Introduction to Linux firewalls/gateways.

This 15-20 minute talk will give an introduction to configuring firewalls
and gateways with Linux.  The talk will be accompanied with practical
demonstrations on the projector.

A firewall protects a network from attacks, while a gateway allows many
computers on a network to access the internet via that gateway.
Firewalls/gateways are essential tools for any modern network, small or
large.

The firewalling/gateway technology used will be iptables (available with
most 2.4.x kernel distros), and RedHat 8.0 will be used during the
demonstration.

After the talk, interested members of the audience are invited to
participate in a 20-30 minute informal lab to setup their own firewall
and/or gateway (interested members should bring their own PC if interested
in participating in the informal lab).  Every effort will be made to
ensure the lab will work with a wide variety of Linux distributions.
Interested members should also ensure they have iptables installed before
lab commencement.

Can people please indicate their interest on this so we know how many people
we will be catering for.
