I sort of agree. There is quite a bit of uncoordinated support for OSS in Govt
by scattered individuals. Not many OSS developers have a M$ marketing budget.
If their development & support budget was as big, OSS should fear :-)
Generally I have found NZ Govt depts take a pretty conservative approach to
software. Very mainstream, & OSS is a bit out on the "faith healing" edge for
many senior managers, the few who know anything about it.
Hopefully the NZOSS can, with the help of individuals with skills in the
corporate/govt use of OSS, build & present effective business cases, relevant
to the NZ situation,to put to senior management staff.
If we can demonstrate to senior mgrs that there are COMMERCIAL AND BUSINESS
advantages in using OSS, (rather than making poor ole Bill's taxes increase),
at a senior level. the IT guys will be asked by their mgrs, Are we using this
OS stuff?".
So if you use OSS in your business, support the NZOSS, put summat positive back
instead of being a leech :-)
'nuf preaching for now!!!
