[wellylug] Group Formalization

I agree we should not be carried away by formalization.
The 'Rules' I have suggested are for discussion and comment - don't accept
them as defacto Rules. They are deliberately simplified from a much more
complex set (9 pages) from a Society, so there is very little in them to
inhibit what actually happens. And they need to be accepted at a meeting.
There are really only two parts to consider:
- Do we need a Committee to organize the meetings more? Remember Jamie has
informally done this in the past, and done a great job, but he has indicated
his wishes.
- Do we agree the Objectives? After all we want each to achieve certain
things by attending.
As for subs - we have been blessed with cheap (in Johnsonville) to no charge
(at present) meeting places. I have to say the current place is an excellent
venue for a lot of reasons. But with a little income we could organise more
install fests and better advertising and promotion of Linux over the region
- perhaps afford to hire halls and the like - Or we could actually make some
goodwill gifts to special presenters. We could even drop this if that is
what people agree.
Remember there has been considerable voice recently about a Hutt LUG as
well. It would be great if we could work along the same lines as well and
share efforts. So perhaps as the same club overall with a Committee to help
coordinate efforts this might work?
Finally remember all this cannot happen unless there are people willing to
support the idea and some willing few to run the group meetings. To do this
debate here and bring to the next meeting your thoughts.
But above all don't get hung up on this - the group is about sharing ideas
and knowledge - and FUN !!!
Colin

don't get carried away too much into formalization.
I was "just turning up" to enjoy the company
(and to show off if given a chance ;P ).
It's a hobby club, not a gym ! :)
(just my 2kopeek's)
