Subject: [wellylug] HP Pavilion BIOS Problem
I have a HP Pavilion 4422. I had to start windows 98 to run a weird dvd,
that didn't work in Ogle.Windows crashed on boot (typical), and I had to
power off the computer.
Now, when I boot up,the bios detects both hard drives correctly, but I
can't boot, and I get a blank screen, with a blinking cursor.
I also tried booting from the cdrom, and floppy drive, but the computer
boots a bit, and then locks up.
I checked the boot order in the bios, but both the hard drives have been
labeled as Maxor-PM906, or something like that. All the other parts of
the BIOS display the hard drives correctly.
I belive that the boot sector might have been corrupted. I have tried to
fix it by playing around with the bios settings, and by removing the
BIOS battery
Any ideas/solutions/posibilities?
Thanks,
--- Jethro
Motherboard is an Asus MEZ-VM (probably a stripped down version)
Find the manual here

Pulling the battery might not be enough, but there should be a "clear CMOS"
jumper there somewhere.
This is a good site for IDing HP boards:
