That may be OK, for a single user at home, but it won't work in the
Corporate environment. I have a strict rule on my systems - no
tarballs. The only problems that we have had is when someone disobeys
this rule and clobbers another package. "Oh, but it said that I also
needed Y!" where Y is a rpmed package which was at a different level.
Try supporting several systems with several patches and see how many
weekends you have to work!
