Um. I must confess its an area I haven't looked at much. I've looked more at
the mapping & 3D visualisation rather than graphing/charting stuff. Its summat
I would like to get more familiar with, but haven't had time...

Generally I have found the graphing capabilities of R, or GMT using cartesion
projection to be OK. My focus in this area has been analysis rather than
charting. KMatplot as a Scilab addon might be useful. I don't think it equates
with Matlab for such things, but is a LOT cheaper. Also the graphing
capabilities of OpenOffice calc & other spreadsheets have been adequate for
simple tasks.

Gri is a script based tool for plotting which can do some interesting stuff.

You should be able to find these pretty easily. Also
http://scilinux.sourceforge.net/graphvis.html
lists a few relevant apps.

Let me know how you get on :-)

Cheers

  Brent
