What is it you are trying to do? Is it an playback jukebox and PVR for the 
living room, or an AV processing and authoring workstation? These have quite 
different requirements.

3. If you are authoring, you need a real-time kernel to handle low latency 
audio drivers such as jack, ladspa plugins, etc.
