[wellylug] What did I do wrong ? - destroyed motherboard

Hi,

I was recently given a working  Compaq Prolinea 5100e with 16MB ram. I
was attempting to upgrade the memory when the machine stopped working
with the error "102-System board failure". The HP website suggests
replace the system board. I had taken the anti-static precautions of
leaving the machine plugged in and trying (maybe not succeeding !) to
keep holding on to the case while fitting the extra memory.


Any comments on what I did wrong. I have upgraded many machines without
noticeable incident up to this point.
