Hello fellow LUG members,
You are welcome to take a look at what will soon be the new website for
the Human Rights Network of Aotearoa New Zealand. It is built using
Plone, a GPL licensed content management system which is based on Zope.
It's not being used as the primary website yet, but if all goes well, it
will be shortly. Any feedback you may offer in taking a look at it and
notifying me of any problems will of course be most welcome. Feel free
to join and poke around, add some content etc. I am especially keen to
hear how the HTML format site newsletter will look in a variety of
different e-mail clients.
The URL is: http://trust.humanrights.net.nz
When the site is used as the primary site, this will change to
http://www.humanrights.net.nz
Plone has been getting some positive news coverage recently. I built
this site in my spare time after the office, so you can see the results
that are possible for non-professionals who have received kind help from
lots of different Plone coders around the world (especially Nikolay Kim
from Kazakstan, who was very helpful and generous with his time).
I could be wrong, but I think it will be one of the first non-government
organisation sites in NZ that offers features like discussion forums
with login and discussion content integrated into the rest of the site,
choice of HTML / plain text format e-mail newsletters that automatically
pull content published on the site, and the ability for members to add
their own content with an elegant and simple system for site managers to
approve the content for publication. I am quite keen to hear of other
non-government (or more broadly non-profit) sites in NZ that have
features like this. Perhaps I just don't know they exist yet :)
I'd also be interested to hear if the site seems fast enough -- the
server is based in my home, and I have a relatively cheap cable Internet
connection.
Thanks heaps to those who might be interested,
Damon
