Which chipset? LT is just Lucent Technology, now Agere. They produce several
chipsets, 3 of which are relatively common. The DSP version should work under
Linux. It is sometimes called a hardware modem (eg, in Dynalink advertising)
although it is NOT. It is not a fully software modem though, compared with
other "controllerless" modems. LT also have a genuine controllerless chipset,
as well as an AMR chipset, which apparently HAS been used on some cheap PCI
modems. The controllerless chipset has been reported to work under Linux, but
also not to work :-) The AMR chipset supposedly doesn't work.
Look at the chip on you modem & see if it is the DSP1648C. If it is, it should
be compatible, if not, I'd look at an alternative.

www.linuxshop.co.nz sell the Dynalink DSP LT modem, but also have downloadable
drivers for it, and instructions for installation. If your modem has this
chipset, look at the indtructions here....
I suggest you shop around, or contact me off list, their price is not the best
around.
