I'd say use Smoothwall over IPCOP, IPCOP is very slow in their development
and Smoothwall is well ahead of them.

I have a couple of Smoothwall boxes with clients and so far have had no
problems with them. They have 100% uptime - except for when I reboot them
after an update (I found they need 256MB RAM for Smoothwall Express 2.0
especially when using a SpeedTouch USB ADSL modem).

They only thing I wish it could do is e-mail me copies of it's logs. If
someone knows how to get it to do that, please contact me.

I'd still recommend a box with ipcop over a hardware router, and you get
a nice web proxy with ipcop as well.  A few addons like Dans Guardian
will put a stop to all that nasty porn shit and stop silly windows users
from downloading trojans form the net as well.
