Yes.

To start with, each BSD has it's own prefered method, but you can use
some methods on more than one BSD, but some only work on one etc.

There are many different tools:

FreeBSD has ipfw, ipf and I think pf now as well.
OpenBSD has pf
NetBSD has pf and ipf
DragonBSD has ipfw I think.

ipfw comes from FreeBSD, ipf (IP Filter) comes from Darren Reed
(http://coombs.anu.edu.au/~avalon/) and pf is OpenBSD's response to
Darren changing the license for ipf.

All have different syntaxes and all are different to iptables and
ipchains.

So yes, before you go any further, I suggest you do a bit of reading
on the above tools and decide which one you want to use.
