Think of it as 4 weekly rather than monthly -- I get paid weekly -- so four pay days. Easy. Months are uneven anyway. 30.5 daze... ?
In terms of dial-up I have one of the afore mentioned TelstraClear phonelines, and have had great sucess with Xtras flat-rate plan. I also have a paradise 20 for $10 and Clear.net.... Generally connected at least 24/7 -- and only get disconnected by my own problems. Get between 15 and 22Gb a month... depending on whats hot this month... for about $25. 250 hours is only 0.342238658 months and I need internet all month. ;)
