[wellylug] Encrypted backup recovery

Does anyone know of an encryption scheme that can (to some degree) recover from read errors on the disk?

Background-
I'd like to back up my server to DVD, but the backups won't live in a "trusted environment," so I'd like to encrypt them.

Right now, I'm using dump & bzip2 to run backups to a spare partition. They both can deal with a few IO errors here and there. Basically, I don't want to lose that ability to recover from a corrupted block or two when I write them out to DVD.
