Hi all, how are you?
Recently I downloaded nethack-343-linux-X11.tgz from nethack.org. The archive contained it's own usr/games directory, which in tern contained a directory named lib and a file simply named nethack, which I believe to be a shell script. Since I already have my own /usr/games directory on my system with files in it I didn't want to write over it with the archive's version of usr/games, so I simply copied the archive's lib directory and the nethack file to my version of usr/games in my root directory.
Everything should've worked fine because the lib directory and the nethack file are in the same relative position in my version of /usr/games as they were in the archive's version of usr/games. Nevertheless nethack did not run and I can't figure out why, I'm hoping one of you can. The web site did not say anything about having to download any extra files as a prerequisite for running nethack.
Output from my Konsole session is as follows:
[root at localhost games]# pwd
/usr/games
[root at localhost games]# ls
chromium fortune lib Maelstrom nethack
[root at localhost games]# ./nethack
./nethack: line 66: /usr/games/lib/nethackdir/nethack: cannot execute binary file
./nethack: line 66: /usr/games/lib/nethackdir/nethack: Success
[root at localhost games]#
As always thank you all for your time, any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Steve
