There's that famous ESR line "release early, release often", which isn't 
just about letting people get at your code to help improve it. It's also 
about the public shame of early releases motivating the programmer to 
get the next version out before too many people notice that the early 
release is of the quality of an early release. It's a motivation that 
wouldn't exist if the programmer continued muddling away on a local copy 
with a release date Real Soon Now When I Figure This Out And Polish This 
Bit.

I've felt it too ;)
