Unless you align to MCU bounds [??].. but yeah.. generally you are
resizing to reduce quality/size ne way.

Tangent:
My Canon IXUS does -- tho it uses PIMA/ISO 15740 or PTP (Picture
Transfer Protocol or SIP 6) for image offloading (not mass storage).
I haven't actually tried with Linux.... [My iPhoto library DOES reside
on a linux box tho ;) ] but a quick google (just now) reveals
http://jalkapallo.org/superkolik/canon.html has a few Canon goodies for
PTP, and a sourceforge project: http://ptp.sourceforge.net/ Mmm.
Must hava look.

Any one have experience with (seemless use of a canon IXUS 430 and) PTP
in linux...? gphoto etc?

I could just use the CF adapter some-ones getting me for Xmas ;) Or
stick with the Mac and iPhoto, tho iPhoto doesn't grab the sounds and
movies... Canon's remote capture app is coolish - they appear to use
some form of that in the AA when you get your drivers license photo
done these days.

Just a thought inspired by the article...
