[wellylug] Do your part to help - I have :)

I agree - the MSN messenger did take a significant amount of ICQ's market share fairly quickly.

However it was already very widely used well before XP, the first version of Windows to come bundled with MSN Messenger, came out.

The ICQ client also has a huge ram overhead, very intrusive advertising and is a far larger download than the MSN client.

The last version of ICQ I used had an awful user interface - it was very badly laid out, with far too many options for the average user.

In short, I feel the MSN client is a better product than ICQ.

The arguments are much the same when comparing Internet Explorer to Netscape. At the time of the Netscape vs Microsoft lawsuit, the Netscape browser was bloated, slow and unstable. Netscape was very slow to implement new web technologies in their browser, and thus they fell behind Microsoft.

Again, Netscape had been steadily losing market share well before Windows came bundled with Internet Explorer.

- Sam

I am sorry, but I will disagree with you..

ICQ, the ultimate in Instant Messenger, went from something like 4
million users , to 1 million, and all those went to MSN, because it came
with Windows, and you didnt need to go and download software, and it was
all there installed when you brought your machine home from the store or
did an upgrade.

Same with Browsers,
and soon will be the same with Virus scanning, when they build it into
Windows, and the same with Firewall products.
