I used varidac macros (variable argument macros) which are a C99
feature.  Most likely the compiler you're using is somewhat ancient... 
I've compiled on RedHat 7.3 and SuSE 9.   RedHat 7.3 uses gcc 2.96 (July
2000 release!).  I haven't tried anything older then that.
