I thought this was the WellyLUG list, not the OSS list?
I must say that when I have been to meetings, I have usually chatted
about what I am running, whether or not others have problems with their
systems etc. Only occasionally do I hear religious discussions about
OSS, and I certainly don't come to meetings for those. I might agree
with many of the views of open source advocates (hell, I've donated
money to some of them) but that isn't the reason I attend the LUG
gatherings.
Really, the fact that the LUG might be overtaken by OSS extremists and
RMS-wannabees, and members might actually be booted out for not joining
in with the 'cause', is the exact reason I don't want to see our 'aims'
codified in a constitution. I suggest people join the NZOSS if they
want to save the world.
I wanted to remain constructive, but this one brought out the cynic in
me.
P.S. Anyone remember the old Commodore 64 clubs? Now THOSE were fun.
Just go along, swap tapes (and later, disks), chat, play games etc. No
politics there, or not at the one I went to anyway.
