$ fluxbox -v
Fluxbox 0.9.9 : (c) 2001-2004 Henrik Kinnunen

Are you running X from 'startx' or are you using a display manager? If
you're just logging in to the console and typing 'startx' then you can
edit your ~/.xinitrc and comment out the 'fluxbox' or 'exec fluxbox' line
and just add 'xterm' as your last entry. X shuts down when the .xinitrc
script completes, so leave that xterm running and you'll get a plain old X
with no window manager. Use that as a base to test mozilla, kppp, etc.

If you're using a display manager (gdm, xdm, kdm, etc) then I'm not sure
since I stay clear of those. Probably need to manually create a custom
session file somewhere that does a similar thing.

Hope this makes sense.
