I'm fairly sure I'm running 1.7 on my laptop, and the middle-click to
open URLs definitely works.  Are you sure it's not something to do with
your setup?

Not sure about the x-remote stuff though, sorry.

I have some nice scripts that wrap around the x-remote interface for
mozilla. I also enjoyed middle-clicking on a page to open with the URL
from the clipboard. In mozilla 1.7, both of these are broken. x-remote
behaviour simply defies all logic, and the middlemouse.contentLoadURL
config option is set to true but the functionality is disabled. Why
didn't
they just set the default to false? But no.... they had to break it
completely... sigh.
