Sorry I don't know how to fix your problem, and I'm not making any kind
of recommendation... but just wondering if you saw the recent article on
pclinuxonline.com about setting up calendars on a GNU/Linux server.  I
don't know much about these things, may not suit what you need at all.

Also, did you consider web server calendar sharing?  Again, I don't know
much except that there are some products for Plone (to take one example)
that do shared calandering, where (as I understand it) client apps can
get their data from there.
